Orexin-SAP

a chemical conjugate of the 28 amino-acid orexin-B peptide (hypocretin-2)
and the ribosome-inactivating protein, saporin

(molecular weight 33 kDa)

Orexin/Hypocretin-SAP targets and eliminates cells expressing orexin receptors. Cells expressing orexin receptors have been implicated in sleep disorders such as narcolepsy. The orexin-SAP targeted toxin specifically eliminates these cells without causing non-specific damage to adjacent cells that do not express the orexin receptor.
